Paxico

Photographs about the music and people of the Flint Hills in Paxico, Kansas.

I started photographing in and around Paxico, Kansas for the first time in September of 2010. My good friend grew up in this small farming town, his family has been farming and raising cattle here since the 1860's. Their piece of property lies on the Flint Hills, home of the Tall Grass Prairie, the richest pastureland in the world.

Every year the Paxico Blues Festival takes place, turning a town of 250 people to over 1,500, for a brief moment in time. This series seeks to capture this quiet and historic farming town, and it's extraordinary community united by music. With the help of this hospitable little town, I have been given a backstage pass to the greatest little show on Earth. These images embody the sense of community, the music, and the alluring qualities of the landscape of the Flint Hills in Paxico, Kansas.
